Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month
October 1 – October 31 CDT
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month is observed in October and sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. October is a time to take a fresh look at how we can educate parents and caregivers on reducing the risk of SIDS. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 3,500 infants died in the United States in 2014 of Sudden Unexplained Infant Death. (SUID).
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month brings awareness to SIDS, the sudden death of an infant less than one year old that cannot be explained after a thorough investigation that includes an autopsy, examination of the death scene, and a review of the medical history.
