National Cyber Security Awareness Month
October 1 – October 31 CDT
National Cyber Security Awareness Month is observed in October and sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Observed each October, NCSAM is an opportunity to raise awareness about the growing importance of cybersecurity and equip the American public with tools and resources to protect themselves online.
National Cyber Security Awareness Month reminds us that, from connecting with friends on social networks to managing our finances online, cyber convenience is not without risks. The personal information we share online while banking, shopping, and posting on social media presents a huge opportunity for cyber criminals to steal our sensitive data to commit crimes.
As more online scams, frauds, and data breaches threaten our digital lives, it is critical that everyone make cybersecurity a priority. You don’t have to be technically “savvy” to stay safe online – even small actions can make a huge difference in avoiding cyber threats.
