Ankylosing Spondylitis Awareness Month
December 22 @ 12:15 am
Ankylosing Spondylitis Awareness Month is observed in April. Ankylosing Spondylitis is a type of inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine or back, although other joints can become involved. In Ankylosing Spondylitis, the joints and ligaments along the spine become inflamed and lead to severe, chronic pain and discomfort as well as stiffness that usually begins in the lower back or buttocks, and may progress into the upper spine, chest and neck. Over time, the vertebrae may grow together, causing the spine to become rigid and inflexible, sometimes creating a forward-stooped posture.
Ankylosing Spondylitis Awareness Month is a time to recognize arthritis and the other associated illnesses such as Ankylosing Spondylitis.
