ADVOCATE FOR YOUR CAUSE WITH ZEBRA AWARENESS RIBBON PINS

Zebra awareness pins are a bold and visually distinct symbol used to raise awareness for rare diseases, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and many other rare conditions. The zebra’s black-and-white stripes serve as a powerful metaphor for illnesses that often go unrecognized or are frequently misdiagnosed.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a group of connective tissue disorders that can cause joint hypermobility, fragile skin, easy bruising, chronic pain, and fatigue. Because these symptoms can vary widely, patients often struggle to receive accurate diagnoses. The zebra symbol reflects those who do not fit the “typical” diagnosis, inspired by the medical saying: “When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.” In this case, EDS patients—and others with rare conditions—are the “zebras”: less common, but very real.

In addition, the zebra print ribbon represents the broader rare disease community. There are more than 7,000 recognized rare diseases, many of which remain underdiagnosed or misunderstood. The zebra pin helps bring visibility to these conditions and supports those navigating complex and often lengthy diagnostic journeys.

Rare Disease Day takes place on February 28, or February 29 during leap years, and serves as a global effort to raise awareness and advocate for better research and support.

Please see our Zebra Pin Causes tab (below) for more information on related causes.

THE PURPOSE OF AWARENESS PINS

Awareness pins serve several important functions:

Raising Awareness: They help to educate communities about various medical and social causes, and mental health issues.

Advocacy and Support: They symbolize support and dedication to a specific cause and the individuals affected by it.

Fundraising: In fundraising campaigns, they generate money for research and support services related to the cause they represent.

Honoring and Remembering: Honor survivors and remember those lost to a disease or cause by wearing an awareness pin.

AWARENESS PIN COLOR MEANINGS

Awareness pins, often in the form of ribbons, are symbols used to show support for various causes and raise awareness about specific issues, particularly social and health-related causes. Different colors are associated with different causes, allowing for a visual representation of solidarity and advocacy. Personalized Cause’s custom design staff has created the perfect custom products for over 20 years. We can assist you with a wide array of personalized and non-personalized products. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or for custom quotes for bulk orders.

Advocate!

WHAT IS ADVOCACY AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Simply put, advocacy is the public support of a particular cause, policy, or position. Advocacy can take any number of forms, from raising awareness online to lobbying directly for change within government or other institutions.

No matter what form they take, advocacy campaigns allow individuals and organizations to spread the word about their mission. These efforts can be paired with fundraising, marketing and outreach, and community service.

WHAT IS DIGITAL ADVOCACY?

Digital advocacy encompasses all of the ways you get the word out about your cause online. Using social media, your website, mobile apps, and email, you can educate the world about your mission and inspire action.

Digital advocacy has become increasingly prevalent (and important) due to the efficiency and wide reach of the internet. You can get your cause in front of thousands of new potential supporters all through a few shares!

WAYS TO ADVOCATE WITH YOUR AWARENESS RIBBON PIN

We see advocates wear zebra enamel awareness ribbon pins on everything from baseball hats to yoga mat bags. Nurses sport ribbons on their ID badges. Festival goers rock ribbons on their lanyards. Teachers use them as pushpins for bulletin boards. Often, students wear them on backpacks to support a struggling classmate. PTAs fundraise with awareness ribbons to call attention to education and social issues. The use of Personalized Cause’s zebra ribbons is endless.

We encourage you to be creative! Send us a photo of the way you advocate and wear your zebra ribbon pin and we’ll feature you on our social media. @personalizedcause
