Stroke Awareness Month
Personalized Cause® Supports Stroke Awareness Month
At Personalized Cause®, we proudly support Stroke Awareness Month every May. This month shines a light on education, advocacy, and compassion through our signature red awareness ribbons. It’s a time to highlight the warning signs of stroke, honor survivors, and raise awareness about prevention, treatment, and recovery.
Why Stroke Awareness Month Matters
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. It can happen to anyone, at any age. Fast recognition of symptoms—and immediate medical treatment—saves lives. Public education during Stroke Awareness Month is critical to improving outcomes.
Why Red for Stroke Awareness?
The red awareness ribbon is the official symbol of stroke awareness. Red represents urgency, strength, and survival. Wearing a red ribbon, lapel pin, or wristband honors those affected by stroke and sparks life-saving conversations.
At Personalized Cause®, we offer:
Classic and custom red awareness ribbon pins
Red fabric ribbons
KNOW MORE® wristbands
Each product provides a meaningful way to show support and raise awareness.
Our Mission
Behind every ribbon is a story. Each story raises awareness and inspires change. Whether you’re a survivor, a caregiver, or a supporter, we want to help you wear your cause proudly. Awareness begins with a single ribbon and a single conversation.
Join Us in May
This May, recognize Stroke Awareness Month by wearing red. Share your story. Educate others about the signs of stroke. Together, we can save lives, support survivors, and raise awareness—one ribbon at a time.

At Personalized Cause®, we proudly support Stroke Awareness Month every May. We help educate the public, honor survivors, and advocate for prevention. Our red awareness ribbons, pins, and wristbands spark conversations, raise awareness, and inspire action.
We are the leading source for personalized awareness pins in the United States. Our specialty is custom awareness ribbons, but our mission goes far beyond products. Through education and advocacy, we shine a light on causes like stroke and encourage compassion and change.
Understanding Stroke
Stroke is more than a sudden medical event. It is a disease that affects the brain and can cause lasting damage. A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is blocked by a clot or interrupted by a burst vessel. Without oxygen, brain cells die within minutes, leading to disability or death.
Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. and a top cause of long-term disability. Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke. Every 4 minutes, someone dies. While risk increases with age, strokes can happen at any age—even in children.
The good news: up to 80% of strokes are preventable. Early recognition and fast treatment save lives.
Types of Stroke
Hemorrhagic Stroke
A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a weakened vessel bursts or leaks. Blood spills into or around the brain, causing swelling and damage. Intra-cerebral hemorrhage, often from high blood pressure, is the most common type. Subarachnoid hemorrhage usually results from a ruptured aneurysm. Though only 15% of strokes are hemorrhagic, they cause nearly 40% of stroke-related deaths.
Ischemic Stroke
Ischemic strokes account for 87% of all strokes. They occur when a clot blocks a brain artery. Thrombotic strokes form in the brain’s arteries, often from plaque buildup. Embolic strokes form elsewhere—often the heart—and travel to the brain. Both types cut off oxygen and cause brain cell death.
High Blood Pressure: The Leading Risk to Know During Stroke Awareness Month
High blood pressure is the number one risk factor for stroke. It weakens vessels, raises clot risk, and damages arteries over time. Managing blood pressure is one of the most effective ways to prevent stroke.
How to Spot a Stroke: Act F.A.S.T.
Seconds matter during a stroke. Use F.A.S.T. to recognize symptoms:
F – Face: Ask them to smile. Does one side droop?
A – Arms: Ask them to raise both arms. Does one drift down?
S – Speech: Is it slurred or strange?
T – Time: Call 911 immediately.
Note the time symptoms started. Emergency teams need this information to provide life-saving treatment.
Pediatric Stroke Awareness
Children can have strokes, though it’s rare and often misdiagnosed. To raise visibility for pediatric stroke, the awareness ribbon combines purple and blue. At Personalized Cause®, we offer special pins to support this important cause.
Red Ribbons for Stroke Awareness
During Stroke Awareness Month, wear red to show support. A ribbon, pin, or wristband honors survivors, raises awareness, and promotes prevention. At Personalized Cause®, we offer both standard and custom red ribbon pins. Add names, dates, or personal messages to make your ribbon unique.
Why Personalized Cause®?
Awareness is personal. Whether you are a survivor, caregiver, or supporter, your story matters. Our custom enamel pins, fabric ribbons, and KNOW MORE® wristbands help you share that story and spread awareness.
