RAINN Day – Raising Awareness About Sexual Violence on Campus

An Annual Day of Action for Safety, Support, and Solidarity

RAINN Day is a national day of action led by RAINN—the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network. It empowers college students to raise awareness, educate peers, and take a stand against sexual violence.

Held each year during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) or in the fall semester, RAINN Day unites campuses across the country. Students host events, share resources, and spark conversations that challenge stigma and promote safety.

This grassroots movement is about more than awareness. It’s about building safer communities, supporting survivors, and inspiring action.

Together, students, educators, and advocates can create a culture where respect replaces violence, survivors feel supported, and everyone knows how to step in and speak up.

Change starts on campus, but its impact reaches everywhere.

A Grassroots Movement Led by Students

At its core, RAINN Day is student-driven. Students—not just faculty or administrators—take the lead in sparking change on their campuses. The goal: empower peers to educate one another, break stigma, and increase awareness of support systems.

How Students Take Action

Students and organizations may:

  • Host panels, rallies, or awareness events

  • Organize poster campaigns and info tables

  • Share statistics and survivor stories

  • Distribute resources on consent and safety

  • Promote campus counseling and Title IX services

  • Create art displays, chalk messages, or pin campaigns

  • Wear teal, the color of Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Education = Prevention + Empowerment on RAINN Day

RAINN Day goes beyond awareness. It gives students tools to:

  • Recognize red flags of abuse

  • Communicate and practice consent

  • Support survivors with compassion

  • Step in as active bystanders

  • Report misconduct and access resources

Support and Resources

RAINN partners with students by offering:

  • Event planning guides

  • Digital toolkits and graphics

  • Survivor-centered outreach materials

Students can visit rainn.org/RAINNDay to find resources, register events, and get involved.

RAINN also runs the National Sexual Assault Hotline:

Culture Change Starts Here

This awareness day is more than a single event. It’s part of a movement to reshape campus culture. When students speak out, support survivors, and demand accountability, they build communities where:

  • Survivors are believed and supported

  • Resources are visible and accessible

  • Prevention is constant and proactive

Final Thought: Your Voice Matters

Whether you lead an event, wear a teal ribbon, or start a conversation, you’re part of the movement. RAINN Day is not just a day—it’s a call to action.
